admin

Consider tutoring students online. You could earn up to $25 an hour which means you could earn $500 in two weeks or even less!

Here’s where you can find work:

1. Chegg Tutors

Chegg Tutors logo

Chegg Tutors is an online tutoring platform where students and teachers come together in virtual classrooms.

In addition to an audio and video chat window, Chegg’s classrooms also have a full text editor and a virtual whiteboard.

There’s a lot more than tutoring here though. As mentioned above, Chegg offers a wide range of online learning services. In fact, tutoring didn’t come until 2014 when Chegg aquired InstaEDU for $30 Million.

Chegg’s original business was renting textbooks from a website called textbookflix.com (a play on the movie rental company Netflix).

A global company, tutoring has become a significant part of their business and today they accept applications from around the world, covering a wide range of ever-changing subjects from the ones you’d expect; Math, English, History etc. to their currently most popular; Finance, Computer Science, Economics, Electrical Engineering, Accounting, Linear Algebra, and Mechanical Engineering.

2. Skooli

Skooli online tutoring is known for its affordability and quality of education. What makes this platform outstanding is that seasoned and certified tutors are employed to take these classes or tutorials in a more friendly way and still ensure the price is as minimal as possible.

According to Skooli.com reviews by students, this is one of the worst places in the world to find qualified teachers online while still in limited number but providing a 24/7 service for its subscribers. There are much better options available online for everyone. Though, Skooli has a mobile app to make teaching and learning easy for both parties (teachers and students). However, these appointments have to be confirmed and approved by the tutors before they can hold.

Online tutoring has become very popular in the work at home community. In today’s post, I will discuss the company Aim4A Tutoring. This company has been around since 2003, based in the US, and connects tutors with students in a variety of subjects worldwide.

These subjects include math, science, and other general subjects. Also, you may help students with homework and test preparations for GED, PSAT, SAT, and other required exams. Subjects will range in age from elementary school to college.  All tutoring is done online through audio and video conferencing, using Skype.

Is Aim4A Tutoring open Worldwide?

Yes, applicants from all over the world are accepted. However, tutors must speak fluent English (both written and verbal) since the students will speak English as well.

4. TutorVista.com

TutorVista Logo

TutorVista is a one-on-one online tutoring platform. Students from Kindergarten to undergrads can access tutors within a virtual classroom environment.

Founded in 2005 and headquartered in India, they provide a work-at-home opportunity for new and experienced tutors.

Similar to companies like Tutor.com and Chegg, TutorVista brings people together in a live environment that includes a chat window and white board that includes graphing and drawing tools.

Common subjects they teach are Math, English, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, and Essay Review… among others.

It should be noted though, that this is a zero-leverage opportunity… meaning you only get paid once for your work.

One of the reasons people start looking for ways to earn money online is because the internet gives you “leverage”… and I don’t know about you, but I’d rather do something once, and get paid for it over and over…

Getting back to TutorVista… their mission statement states they want to make world class education accessible and affordable. With a minimum cost of $329.99 to access their cheapest rate ($4/hr) and hourly rates climbing from there to $18/hr… accessible and affordable might not be entirely accurate, but they do hint at what you can expect to earn as a tutor.

5. Tutor.com

Tutor.com is an online tutoring platform where students and home-based teachers come together inside a virtual classroom.

Founded in 1998, Tutor.com is one of the oldest online educational platforms… and was way ahead of its time. This was an era when we debated whether online banking would become a thing. There were even “experts” debating whether the entire internet was just a fad.

Today, Tutor.com has grown to employ over 3000 work-at-home tutors and work directly with colleges, universities, employee benefit programs and the US Military.

How Does It Work?

The application process can take anywhere from 1 – 3 weeks and includes,

  • Completing your application.
  • Exams for the subjects you’re interested in (up to 2-3 hours in length and you are provided time, even days if required, to prepare).
  • Mock tutoring sessions.
  • Background check (paid for by Tutor.com).
4 Steps To Become a Tutor Online
How Does It Work?

Having completed the steps above, you’re still not guaranteed a spot. If the subjects that you’ve chosen have an abundance of tutors already, you will be placed on a wait list.

If for some reason you can’t get started right away you can also make some money by doing simple surveys. Market research sites like surveyjunkie.com and inboxdollars.com will pay for your opinon. Inbox Dollars will even pay you for doing things you do online anyway, like watching videos, visiting websites, and playing games.

To be clear, these sites don’t pay a lot of money but they are a simple way to get started if you’ve never made money online before.

You might also consider similar work-from-home tutoring opportunities such as Cambly and Course Hero, or my favorite way to make money online…

… with an online business

The disadvantage of an online business is that it won’t generate income right away.

The advantage however, is that the income it does generate, is passive. Not “hands off” passive like some gurus would claim (at least not in my experience) but over time your income exceeds the amount of work you put in and you have more freedom than you would trading hours for dollars.

If more freedom and independence are what you’re looking for, then knowing how (and where) to get started is what you need in order to get what you want.
